マレーシア国家警察音楽隊は、1932年に総司令官J.D.フッシーによって設立されました。最初は10人の警察官と音楽愛好者で発足しました。現在は中央警察をはじめ、ケダ州、サバ州、サラワク州、マレー半島南部地域の5つの警察から構成されています。現在の団員数は353人です。

　5つの各警察音楽隊は警察組織の副局長あるいは警部補が音楽部長として運営しています。すべての警察音楽隊を統括しているのは本部の音楽主席隊長です。現在の主席隊長はMohd Noor Firdaus BinAbdullah (モハマッド ノール フィルダウス アブドラー)です。

　マレーシア国家警察音楽隊は木管楽器、金管楽器、打楽器で編成されています。編成楽器はピッコロ、フルート、クラリネット、アルトサクソフォン、テナーサクソフォン、トランペット、マーチングフレンチホルン、トロンボーン、バリトン、スーザフォン、そして打楽器セクションはスネアドラム、テナードラム、6ピッチのバスドラムとの組み合わせです。この組み合わせは伝統的な軍隊バンドと我が国の伝統的バンドの様式を取り入れています。

　マレーシア国家警察音楽隊は主な国家行事にはすべて参加しています。国家行事の主なものは国家記念日、国王戴冠式、軍隊晩餐会、外国からのVIPをもてなす歓迎式典などです。

　各地で開催される国際行事にもマレーシアを代表して参加しています。例えば国際軍隊マーチングバンド大会、独立記念パレード、警察記念日パレード、軍隊バンド交流プログラムなどです。

　87年の歴史を持つマレーシア国家警察音楽隊はマレーシア軍隊のマーチングバンドの質を高め、より良い改革を実施する重要な任務を担っています。マレーシア国家警察音楽隊の独自性や質の向上への貢献や努力は国内で幅広く認められています。マレーシア軍隊バンドと緊密な連絡をとりながら、更なる質の向上とより良い演奏を目指しています。

The Royal Malaysia Police Band was founded by J.D. Hussey, a Police Depot Commandant, in 1932. It started as a 10-piece wind ensemble band represented by 10 rank-and-file musicians. Today, it has a total of 353 members, inclusive of band members from the Central Region Police Band, Kedah Police Band, Sabah Police Band, Sarawak Police Band and Southern Region Police Band.

Each of the five police bands — Central Region, Kedah, Sabah, Sarawak and Southern Region — are headed by a Music Director with the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) or Police Inspector (Insp). At the top of the organizational chart, the Royal Malaysia Police Principal Director of Music leads the entire organizational structure of the RMP Band, assisted by a Deputy Principal Director of Music. The current RMP Principal Director of Music is Superintendent Dr. Mohd Noor Firdauz Bin Abdullah.

Generally, the Royal Malaysia Police Band consists of the standard woodwind-brass-percussion instrumentation: piccolos/flutes, clarinets, alto and tenor saxophones, trumpets, marching F horns, trombones, baritones, sousaphones, and a percussion line consisting of snare drums, tenors, six pitched bass drums and cymbals, following a formation format that is similar to the traditional military band services, and inspired by its long cultural heritage in music.

At the national level, the RMP Band has been involved without fail in the military band parade and performing shows during the national day celebration annually, the official events or ceremonies of the King, the Royal Concert, Royal Mess Night, official and high protocol events involving foreign heads of nation or heads of government, the official events of the Royal Malaysia Police force, and the official events of other government ministries, departments and agencies.

On the international scene, the RMP Band was chosen to represent Malaysia in several international military marching band competitions and shows — International Military Tattoo, Independence Day Parade, Police Day Celebration, Regional Military Band Exchange Program, etc.

For the past 87 years, the RMP Band has played a vital role in the evolution and revolution of Malaysia's military marching band development. The uniqueness and effort of the RMP Band in enhancing and upgrading the performance quality of Malaysia's military bands is has been recognised. In addition, the RMP Band works hand in hand with those military bands to form a strong and well reckoned military marching band in Malaysia.
