N.Y.P.D. Police Band

　ニューヨーク市警察音楽隊は1901年に創設され、毎年開催される警察パレードでは、常に先頭で演奏しています。その技術は年々向上し、演奏の質と内容が高く評価されて、フランクリン・ルーズベルト大統領の最初の就任式でも演奏する機会を得ることができました。その後、1953年には音楽隊員も65名になり、各地でパレードや小・中学校の演奏など、様々な方法で演奏活動をして地域社会に貢献してきました。しかし、54年に警察官としての業務が強化された際に、一時解散することになりました。91年、当時のレイモンド・ケリー長官の要望により音楽隊が復活し、現在は70名の現役警察官による音楽隊となり、ニューヨーク市内のパレードや記念行事、小学校、中学校へ訪問して活動するなど、演奏に励んでいます。

The N.Y.P.D. Police Band, established in1901, has performed every year at the head of the Annual Police Parade, growing in quality and reputation. It later performed at the first inauguration of Franklin Delano Roosevelt. By 1953, the band was up to 65 members and contributed to the community in many ways, but it was disbanded in 1954 owing to the need of the department to augment its patrol force. Reinstated in 1991 by Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly, the band now consists of 70 active uniformed members of the department and performs in New York City's parades and special ceremonies, and visits local elementary and middle schools.
