パリ第七区警察官の音楽仲間の集まりが、現在の「パリ警視庁音楽隊」になりました。

　1919年に巡査長のアンドレ・マルタンがパリ18、19区から音楽隊員を集め、後のパリ警視庁音楽隊となる「パリ第七区音楽ユニオン」を創設。その音楽ユニオンが、警察創設100周年記念の1929年3月31日、総監ジャン・シアップによって公式に「パリ警視庁音楽隊」と命名され、ジュール・ブルー、そしてドニ・ルセルが指揮しました。

　第二次世界大戦によって解体された音楽隊は、アンドレ・ウイエ隊長の下に独自のレジスタンス網を作り、3名の隊員を戦禍で失いながらも、当時パリで唯一の音楽隊として1942年に再組織されました。

　1944年8月24日、パリ警視庁音楽隊はドゴール将軍臨席の下に4年間封印されていたフランス国歌「ラ・マルセイエーズ」をパリ警視庁正面広場で演奏する栄誉を得ました。

　戦後、音楽隊はフェリス・クリブフの監督の下に活動を再開し、1954から99年まで、デジレ・ドンデンヌ、クロード・ピショロ、フランソワ・ブーランジェ、ルイ・ティレ、フィリップ・フェロー、ピエール・ウォルター、ジャン＝ジャック・シャルルに受け継がれました。

　2014年7月よりパリ警視庁音楽隊はジルダス・アルノワが指揮を執り、ジャン＝ジャック・シャルルが副隊長を務めています。

　フランス全土の優秀な音楽院から集められた高度なプロ音楽家で組織された音楽隊はクラシックからモダン音楽まで幅広いレパートリーを持ち、フランス主要都市での公式行事のみならず国内外の大きな音楽フェスティバルに参加しています。また、ラジオやテレビでの数々の演奏、160回を超すレコーディング、そしてシャルル・クロス・アカデミー賞やフランス・レコード・アカデミー賞を含む多数の受賞は私どもが誇りとするところです。

From the 7th District Musical Union to the Musique des Gardiens de la Paix

In 1919, Sergeant Martin created the "7th District Musical Union," an association gathering musicians from the 18th and 19th Paris districts.

On March 31, 1929, on the occasion of the Police Forces Centenary, Chief of Police Jean Chiappe officialized the Musical Union under the name Musique des Gardiens de la Paix —conducted by Jules Bleu and then by Denis Roussel.

The war dissolved the band which reformed in 1942. At the time, the Musique des Gardiens de la Paix was the unique, official musical group in Paris. It created its own resistance network under Andre Houiller and paid a heavy price: Three musicians were shot or died during deportation.

On Aug. 24, 1944, the Musique des Gardiens de la Paix had the privilege to revive, in the Main Courtyard of the Prefecture de Police, the Marseillaise (the French national anthem) prohibited for four long years, as a tribute paid by the General de Gaulle to the heroic fighters of the Prefecture de Police.

A reputation of excellency

At the end of the war, the Musique des Gardiens de la Paix resumed its activities under the supervision of Felix Coulibeuf till 1954. From 1954 to 1999, the bandmasters were as follows: Desire Dondeyne, Claude Pichaureau, Francois Boulanger, Louis Tillet, Philippe Ferro, Pierre Walter, Jean-Jacques Charles.

Since July 2014, la Musique des Gardiens de la Paix has been conducted by Gildas Harnois, assisted by Jean-Jacques Charles.

The Musique des Gardiens de la Paix is composed of high-level professional musicians, stemming from the best academies. Besides official and formal ceremonies, the Musique des Gardiens de la Paix lends its support to big musical events in different places in the capital, France and abroad. Its wide repertoire extends to contemporary works. The Musique des Gardiens de la Paix can be proud of having recorded numerous performances on records (more than 160), radio and television.

It was awarded a great number of prizes including those from the Charles Cros Academy and the French Recording Academy.
