警視庁音楽隊は、昭和23年に発足し、「グランドコンサート」「シンフォニックコンサート」「ピーポくんファミリーコンサート」といった演奏会の他、各種式典や小中学校での音楽鑑賞会、パレードなどの行事を通じて、都民と警察を結ぶ「音の架け橋」として年間約150回の演奏活動を行っています。コンサートでは、吹奏楽作品やクラシック作品だけではなく、ポップス、演歌、ジャズなど幅広いレパートリーで好評を得ており、令和元年には「祝賀御列の儀」に伴う奏楽を行いました。

　昭和24年から日比谷公園小音楽堂で春・秋に開催している「水曜コンサート」は、現在まで1,100回を超え、昼の憩いのコンサートとして多くの都民に親しまれています。

　「世界のお巡りさんコンサート」には平成８年の第１回目から参加しており、これまで数多くの国で演奏活動を行い、世界中の人々に「世界一安全な都市、東京」をアピールしています。

警視庁音楽隊カラーガード“MEC”

　平成4 年に発足。通称MEC（メック＝Metropolitan Color Guardの略）と呼ばれ、警察官と警察行政職員で構成されています。カラーガードとは本来国旗や隊旗など大切な旗を守る部隊を意味しています。現在はフラッグ（旗）演技をはじめとするパフォーマンスを披露するチームのことを示しています。

　MECのレパートリーはクラシックからジャズ、映画音楽、マーチなど幅広いジャンルを揃えており、音楽隊の演奏に合わせた多彩なフラッグ演技やダンスは多くの観客を魅了し続けています。

The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Band was founded in 1948. Its activities range from grand and premium concerts to family concerts featuring its mascot Piipo-kun. It also takes part in various ceremonies, music appreciation events at elementary and junior high schools, parades and other events. With some 150 appearances each year, the band forms a bridge of music between police and the residents of Tokyo.

The band has earned a favorable reputation for its wide repertoire, which extends beyond wind-instrument pieces and classical music to pop music, enka and jazz. Its regular "Wednesday Concert," which has been held at the Hibiya Open-Air Concert Hall in Tokyo's Hibiya Park during the spring and autumn since 1949, has been staged over 1,100 times to date. This relaxing lunchtime concert is enjoyed by many residents. In 2014, the band staged an 80th birthday celebration grand concert for the Emperor and Empress that was attended by their majesties, the current Emperor Emeritus Akihito and Empress Emerita Michiko.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Band has taken part in the World Police Band Concert every year since the inaugural concert in 1996, and has given performances in many countries, presenting Tokyo to people across the globe as the world's safest city.

Tokyo Metropolitan Police Band Color Guard (MEC)

The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Band Color Guard was established in 1992, and is familiarly known as "MEC." It consists of police officers and administrative police workers. "Color" means "flag," and originally the color guard was a unit that protected important flags such as the national flag and unit flags. Now, however, it is a team that delivers performances with a focus on presentations involving flags.

MEC's repertoire spans a wide range of musical genres, from classical to jazz, film music and marches, and its diverse range of flag performances and dances timed to the musical performances of the police band continue to enthrall audiences.
